Leechburg, Pa: Despite mostly peaceful community protests, the Armstrong County Library proceeded with a ‘Skin-Head Storytime’ yesterday afternoon. About twenty-seven children aged four through six attended, along with parents and other community members.
When asked why the Armstrong County Library offered a venue for this distasteful event, Head Children’s Librarian Cassandra Ngo, who uses the pronouns she, her, and hers, made the following statement:
The Armstrong County Library is committed to providing diverse experiences for patrons of all ages. Even though many in our community may have found this event offensive, we feel that it is our duty to allow a voice to the widest possible variety of groups. We hope that this story-time served to foster an appreciation of literature through the power of the spoken word. Of course, anyone who objects is free not to attend, and is welcome to fill out a comment form on our website.
